My roommate and I each own a dog. Mine is a one year-old Jack Russell terrier mix named Edgar and my roommate’s is a 100 lb yellow lab named Duke. While both of our dogs are fairly well behaved it was always difficult to find a dog walker that could manage both Edgar’s constant puppy pulling and Duke’s brute strength and sometimes stubborn behavior. Because of this our pet’s were not getting the exercise they need as my roommate and I work full-time and are often too tired after a long day of work to give Duke and Edgar our full attention. As a result of so much pent-up energy, Edgar would often chew through our furniture and Duke had become slightly overweight.

We finally found Foxtrot Dog Walking on Craigslist and found their rates so affordable that we decided to contact them. When their walker Ben arrived at our house, we sensed we had found a good match for our dogs, especially since both Duke and Edgar are often more judgmental and hostile towards men. With only an hour of rigorous exercise everyday, Ben has managed to help Duke lose weight and Edgar has ceased chewing on anything besides the toys we give him. In addition to the dogs being healthier this regimental exercise at the hands of a stern yet encouraging dog walker has led to more obedient behavior from the dogs when my roommate and I are walking them ourselves. This makes our jobs as parents so much easier and we couldn’t be happier. We hope all dog owners in New Orleans can find a dog walker as caring and effective as Ben from Foxtrot Dog Walking.

Ben from Foxtrot Dog Walking and I have been friends for years, even before I was given my Pitbull Aurora from a young homeless man in New Orleans. Even though Aurora has a reputation as one of the sweetest Pitbulls in New Orleans she is also full of the type of fireball energy that could not be exhausted by your average dog walk. As a result Aurora’s true Pitbull nature would sometimes come out after a long day of inactivity and she would snap at other dogs at the dog park when I would take her out after a long work day. Since Ben has a dog of his own he has always volunteered to take Aurora with him on his dog walks while I would be at one of my two jobs. He has always treated Aurora as if she was his own and in doing so has always made an effort to give her the attention, affection, and exercise he would give his own dog. His most effective mode of exercise involves skateboarding with Aurora to which she will excitedly pull him around the flatter part of ourof our neighborhood for over an hour. With Ben’s help Aurora hasn’t snapped at another dog for over a year and is always pleasantly exhausted by the end of the day.

I found my dog Chauvin chained to a fence just south of New Orleans. When I inquired about her owner a man said she belonged to him but that he no longer wanted her as she was a terrible guard dog. I was happy to take her, as she is a beautiful dog who seemed to need a better home. The only problem was that Chauvin was a nipper and would often inflict slight bites on anyone that crossed our path. Despite the fact she has never bit me this became a problem when I would go to work and ask one of my roommates to let her out and she would often run away from them or bite them. One of my roommates was close to making me get rid of her. It eventually became clear to me that I needed to find a professional.
While I’d be lying if I said Chauvin’s progress was an overnight success, it is clear to me that it has all been a result of the careful attention Ben from Foxtrot Dog Walking has given her. He never gets frustrated with her but also refuses to coddle her or reward her for bad behavior. As a result Chauvin has really come out of the shell she had been stuck in since I found her chained to a fence and is now one of the happiest dogs I’ve ever met.

My dog Spike is fourteen years old but still has enough energy to play an hour long game of fetch almost daily. Since I am at work all day I decided to find Spike a friend who would participate in this game with him. Most people I know can only keep up with Spike for ten, maybe fifteen minutes but Ben from Foxtrot Dog Walking will throw a ball or a stick just short of exhausting Spike. Being an older dog, it is important to me that Spike gets an appropriate amount of exercise that won’t put too much strain on his muscles or bones. Somehow Ben knows exactly when to stop where many others would either leave Spike annoyed and wanting more or exhausted with wobbly knees. I’m so happy to have found Spike the perfect buddy with Foxtrot Dog Walking.
